Introducing the 2025 team!
We are very excited to introduce you to the 2025 symposium committee! We have worked very hard to make sure this event is as interesting and educational as possible!
Steven van Roon - Manager of the Robotics Centre
Manager of the
Robotics Centre at the University of Twente. He brings together
researchers, students, companies—and really anyone with a passion for
robotics—to connect and collaborate on new robotic applications.
Bridging the gap between academia and industry, turning bold ideas into
tangible innovations. He's always on the lookout for people with crazy
ambitions—because that’s where the real breakthroughs begin.
The Robotics Centre
serves as a hub for interdisciplinary research, education, and
innovation in robotics and AI. By building strong partnerships across
sectors, the Robotics Centre accelerates the development
of solutions to challenges in areas such as healthcare, agriculture,
safety, and industrial automation.
Marit Wiegerinck - Chairwoman
Hello, I am Marit Wiegerinck. I am the chair of the committee for the Robotics in Motion symposium. I am very excited to be organizing the symposium this year. I hope it will be a fun, inspiring and educative day for students, companies, researchers and everyone else attending. I am in the third year of the bachelor Advanced Technology. Next year I plan to start a Nanotechnology master. Besides my studies I like to do sports (track and field and bouldering). I also like to organize things for my fellow students, like a local track and field competition and multiple smaller activities within S.A. Astatine last year and now the symposium.
Lars Bonekamp - Treasurer
Hey, my name is Lars Bonekamp. I am functioning as the Treasurer of the Symposium Committee. During my bachelor's I have always been an active student for the student association of Advanced Technology, which is called Astatine. In the study year of 2023/2024 I have been the Secretary and Commissioner of External affairs of Astatine. This extra year in my bachelor's gave me the opportunity to better explore which master I want to pursuit. In the end I concluded that the master of Robotics comes closest to want I would want to do.
Aleksandra Jaworska - Secretary
Hi I'm Aleksandra. I am now a second year Advanced Technology student. During my time at AT I have realized I'm interested in the Robotics field and would most likely pursue this field during my masters. This makes me even more excited to help organize this year's Astatine Symposium on that topic. My role in this committee is a secretary and part of External Affairs and my goal is to contact people and companies who/which would be an interesting and insightful addition to the Symposium. Additionally, I am acting as one of the commissioners of Design, in this role I'm hoping to create a comprehensive image of the event.
Thevin Weerakoon - External Affairs
Hi, I am Thevin Weerakoon and I am a Commissioner of External affairs as well. I'm a Sri Lankan student that started the bachelor Advanced Technology over 2 years ago. My dad is an entrepreneur in many technical fields in Sri Lanka which sparked my interest to pursue this topic in a more in-depth manner. During my bachelor’s I fell in love with the design and research of mechanical devices, hence my master choice Mechanical engineering in either Twente or Lausanne. Aircrafts are one of my passions besides the study, therefore I heavily prompted for the representation of drones in the symposium.
Federica Anzini - External Affairs
Hi, I’m Federica Anzini and I’m part of the External Affairs team for this year’s symposium. I’m from Switzerland with Dutch, Italian, and Swedish roots, and I grew up speaking five languages, which has helped me connect easily with people from different backgrounds. I’m currently in my second year of the Advanced Technology bachelor at the University of Twente. My main interest lies in mechanical engineering, especially in its applications within the health sector. I’m fascinated by how robotics can support healthcare innovations, from surgical tools to assistive technologies. That’s why I’m excited to help bring this year’s robotics-themed symposium to life.
Wouter van Leeuwen - Logistics
Hey, I am Wouter van Leeuwen and I am partly doing the logistics for the Symposium. At my high school, I participated in a newer version of the general Dutch high school education called Technasium. Compared to the standard high school program, I had an additional course in which problems or innovations related to problems in the technical field are researched, after which sometimes was aimed to make a suitable solution. This really represents the technical projects in our studies and research groups at the University. Partly because of this I am excited to organize this Symposium to show the rest of the bachelor students the excitement new technology can bring.
Jasmijn Hiddink - Logistics
Hi, My name is Jasmijn Hiddink. In addition to Wouter, I also followed the Technasium track in high school, stimulating me to find the broader ranged technical studies. This is my second year studying Advanced Technology and exploring the widely ranched engineering fields. For this symposium I have been busy with the general planning and logistics. In my spare time I enjoy doing sport, varying from running and cycling to ice skating. I am looking forward to the symposium and looking forward to seeing you there!
